The Dahlia Cafe au Lait, a decorative Dahlia and would have to be the most popular dahlia to date, it’s not hard to see why! Blooming in the most dreamy soft coffee, cream and blush tones.
Blooms can grow up to 30cm across.
Growing dahlias from tubers is a breeze, especially in the Australian climate, where they can be planted from September to December.

Sowing Depth: 10cm with the eyes facing upwards approx.
Plant Spacing: Space them about 60cm apart. This gives each dahlia ample room to grow. approx.
Germination Time: 14 - 35 days approx.
Soil Temp: 15-21 degrees. Soil Preparation. Start by enriching your soil with a generous mix of compost and well-rotted manure. This ensures that your dahlias have the nutrients they need to thrive.
Germination Tips: Place the tuber directly in the ground where it will grow with the neck facing upwards. Alternatively, the tubers can be sprouted in pots and then transferred into the garden. Fill a pot with organic matter, then place the tuber in, leaving the neck just out. Dampen the soil and leave in the greenhouse until sprouted. Mist water if the soil is very dry, otherwise leave. Make sure you harden them off before planting them in the garden.

Harvest Tips: Deadheading; Regularly remove old flowers from your dahlias. This encourages the plant to produce even more blooms. Dahlias do not open much after harvesting, so it is important to cut when they have opened but not fully. End Of Season: You can leave dahlia tubers in the ground, but they will form a cluster of competing tubers. It's best to lift and divide them during mid-winter.
Other Notes: Watering: Water in well if soil is dry. Then once the plant is established water regularly. Support: To prevent damage from high winds, it's a good idea to stake or corral your dahlias. If staking do this before planting the tubers to avoid any damage to the tuber. Pinching: Once your dahlia seedlings have developed 4-5 sets of leaves, you can pinch the tips off them. This encourages the growth of additional shoots, resulting in more blooms. Nutrient Balance: Keep an eye on the nutrients your dahlias receive. Too much nitrogen can result in excessive foliage growth at the expense of blooms. To encourage abundant blossoms, consider using high-potassium fertilisers and iron sulfate. Please Note:
- Orders are sent weekly on a Wednesday morning, as they require a quarantine inspection on arrival.
- Order cut off is midnight Tuesday night as long as payment is finalised. Sometimes paypal payments can take 24-48hrs to go through. This is rare. If this is the case the order will go into the following week's dispatch.
- Please note not all seeds can be sent to WA. Seeds that cannot be sent are marked on the thumbnail or below the price on the product page. These seeds are NOT permitted to WA.
- Unfortunately due the way our orders get to WA Quarantine we cannot send large items like accessories, books etc.
- We don't offer Express Post to WA as the parcels are sent weekly and defeats the purpose of Express post. You can however choose parcel post.
- Unfortunately we cannot send books and accessories to WA due the way the quarantine inspection process works.

Our seeds are all germination tested, with most seeds having around an 80% germination rate.
Your germination rates will depend on lots of environmental factors.
We mostly recommend raising seedlings over direct sowing.
