Common Name: Illawarra Plum, also known as Plum Pine, Australian Plum and Plum Pine.
Scientific Name: Podocarpus elatus
Life Cycle: Evergreen
Remarks: Fast growing Australian Native rainforest tree. Endemic to the east coast of NSW and QLD. Grows best in tropical areas.
Has separate male and female trees. Produces large purple berries that ripen in March and July can be eaten raw or cooked. The female tree can take up to 5 years to fruit.
Plant Height: 8-12m (can grow to 40m)
When: Spring + Autumn is best, but can sow all year round.
Sowing Depth + Method: Soak for 24-48 hours. Sow 10mm deep. Raise seedlings. Keep moist.
Position: Full Sun
Days until germination: 25-60 days @ 25°C
