Common Name: Queensland Bottle Tree
Scientific Name: Brachychiton rupestris
Life Cycle: Evergreen
Remarks: Slow growing drought tolerant small to medium tree that has a bulbous trunk, hence the name bottle tree.
Leaves are dropped before flowering occurs from October to December. Adaptable from tropical to temperate climates. Traditional bush tucker.
Cream bell flowers bloom at the end of Spring and then produces amazing large seed pods.
Needs protection from frosts.
Endemic to Queensland.
Plant Height: 18-20m high and 6m wide.
When: Spring + Autumn are best, but can be sown all year.
Sowing Depth + Method: Soak overnight in almost boiling water, once the seed is swollen it is ready for sowing. Raise seedlings.
