Common Name: Snapdragon Costa Summer Velvet

Scientific Name: Antirrhinum majus

Life Cycle: Annual

Remarks: Classed as a group 3 & 4. Fits into various planting season.

Exceptionally robust stems, high yield, and uniform growth in the field or greenhouse.

Bred for performance under short days and low temperatures. Considered a group two snapdragon. Popular for spring and autumn production.

If you would like a bushier plant that produces more flower-producing side branches, pinch young plants back by half their height when plants have formed 4-6 leaves or are approximately 8-10cm tall.

Pinching will delay the crop time by a few weeks. If pinching, space plants 15-30cm apart.

Flower and stem quality are reduced in warmer weather and longer days.

Type Of Seed: Hybrid, is the offspring of a cross between two or more parent lines, usually the same species. This is to improve the traits for growing. These seeds can not be saved, as they will not grow as vigorous and not stay true to the parent plant.

Note: Direct seeding is not recommended.

Height: When grown as a one-cut, stems can be as long as the full height of the plants. When grown for multiple cuts per plant, stems vary in length at 30-90cm.

Planting advice: Light is required for germination, but a fine layer of vermiculite covering the seeds can maintain moisture levels and prevent algae growth.

Germination should occur in 7–14 days at 21–24°C.

After emergence, maintain a soil temperature of 18–24°C.

After the seedlings have 3–5 true leaves, grow at 10–14°C at night and 16°C during the day.

Approx number of seeds: 50

Seed to Bloom: 115 days

Sow:  Autumn, late Winter and Spring

Position: Sun/ part shade

Harvest: Florets on lower 1/3- 1/2 of the spike are open.

Note:  Dispatch to W.A is once weekly due to quarantine restrictions upon arrival.
