10 Summer Gardening Tips

- Water first thing in the morning at the base of the plant, watering the actual plant can cause disease as well as burn the leaves .
- Drip irrigation helps save water as will water the actual plants not the surroundings like sprinklers do.
- Mulching around your plants with something similar to sugar cane will help keep moisture in and plants cool.
- Grow low maintenance plants that do not require a lot of water once established, some examples of these can be Natives and annuals like cosmos.
- Any flowers / veggies that may scorch in the midday sun - make a makeshift shade tent with some old shade cloth / hessian.
- If growing young seedlings in the greenhouse then keep a close eye on them, they will likely need watering twice a day.. and can fry very quickly.
- Anything potted, think patio/deck plants with need watering twice, especially terracotta
- Airflow between plants to avoid disease like powdery mildew etc
