Our Favourite Filler and Foliage Flowers
Filler flowers are used in bouquets too 'fill' in the spaces between the more statement flowers such a zinnia, dahlia or ranunculus. Filler flowers are generally smaller blooms that fill the gaps in arrangements to add volume and depth around the statement flowers.
I read somewhere that the filler flower is the support act to the main, although I also think that filler flowers such as Chocolate Lace or Bells of Ireland look great alone just as one big bunch.
When growing your own filler flowers you will find that most of them are pretty low maintenance and will keep giving flowers over a long period.
Some herbs, such as Bee Balm, Basil and Fennel make great fillers too and can be used in the kitchen as well!
Foliage is used to create texture in a bouquet by using leaves and stems and can be used to create backdrops for specials occasions. I also love the look of the foliage such as sweet pea vine and nasturtium vines as part of a bouquet.
