Common Name: Australian Native Grass Tree Seeds

Scientific Name: Xanthorrhoea johnsonii

Remarks: These Australian Native Grass Trees are a long-term project- very slow growing, but worth the wait! Occurs in well-drained soils in open forest and heath.

Trunk 0.1 to 5 m high stem and crown usually 1 m. Young leaves in spreading upright tuft. Old leaves often strongly reflexed.

Sowing instructions: Fill 10cm (4in) pots with moist sandy soil, wet thoroughly and compress.

Sow 2 or 3 seeds flat on the soil in each pot, and cover lightly with soil. Water gently and cover pots with clear polythene – remove when seeds start to germinate.

Keep moist. Place in a warm shady position to germinate fully.

Plant out when about 10cm (4in) high. Water in well. Water weekly in dry weather for quicker growth.

When to sow: Spring + Summer is best, can sow all year.

Spacing: 1 + meter apart

Position: Part Shade/ Full Sun

Days until germination : 28-364 days @ 18-22°C

Please Note:

  • Orders are sent weekly on a Wednesday morning, as they require a quarantine inspection on arrival.
  • Order cut off is midnight Tuesday night as long as payment is finalised. Sometimes paypal payments can take 24-48hrs to go through. This is rare. If this is the case the order will go into the following week's dispatch.
  • Please note not all seeds can be sent to WA. Seeds that cannot be sent are marked on the thumbnail or below the price on the product page. These seeds are NOT permitted to WA.
  • Orders that contain large items like hanging herb dryer, trugs and large books may be split and seeds sent separately to the accessories.
  • Unfortunately we don't offer Express Post to WA as the parcels are sent weekly and defeats the purpose of Express post. You can however choose parcel post.
